That part in the marriage vows about “for better or worse” is something that is generally associated with money or health – but, apparently for this guy from Algeria, he meant better looking.

This story out of North Africa is one that will make you wonder about what the basis of a relationship really is. It’s worth noting that in the region, arranged marriages are the norm, and it’s often the case that a man and woman will meet once or twice before marriage and then be expected to live the rest of their lives with one another. It works for them, because expectations are clear, and it’s something they are accustomed to. Most of the time, they build a relationship from that point based on mutual respect and a desire to make one another happy.

But – as in any situation – there are exceptions. And this guy is one of them.

This is a bad Divorce Court episode waiting to happen – this man claims that his wife pulled a “bait and switch” on him by wearing makeup before their marriage.

The man says that he was duped because the woman he had been dating was, “very beautiful and attractive” but, he claims when he woke up the next morning and saw her without her makeup, he thought she was a stranger robbing him!

And – he’s taking this pretty seriously, and so are the courts. He and his divorce attorney are suing the woman for the equivalent of $13,000 for what is essentially fraud.

Here’s her before and after pic:
